We expected it but it was still great to see it happen and by a unanimous show of hands!
Chris Harrison of The developer Theakston Land faltered as Committee members grilled him about his highly dubious proposal. We were allowed 3 speakers who could speak for 3 mins each - Dave Watson ex-Countryside Dept RCBC, Janet Jeffrey and Craig Hornby did the honours. Anna Turley as MP was also allowed to speak. After his rejection of the scheme Councillor Stuart Smith of Saltburn also praised "the sterling work of the Friends of Eston Hills" :-)
SO BIG THANKS TO:
THE 813 WHO SUBMITTED OBJECTIONS,
THE 2000 WHO SIGNED THE PETITIONS
&
EVERY MEMBER OF THE PLANNING COMMITTEE!
Theakston Land may well take it to appeal and a public inquiry may result. That is when the Govt. Inspector steps in and potentially could overrule the council (democracy wot?!!) Today, we have won a battle and can celebrate! BUT the war may not be over...
